Barcelona Fashion Vibrations

Barcelona is living its own ‘Fashion Week’! And it is the inauguration of the ‘Hall of Fame’, an exhibition of photographs from Vanity Fair on Passeig de Gràcia, that kick’s off this year’s Barcelona Fashion Week. The fashion events starting tomorrow with ASVOFF will be ending on the 6th February with the closure of Little Barcelona.

The video of the exhibition of photographs of Vanity Fair is below and just because I visited Passeig de Gràcia there are some amazing pictures!

Our fashion route will be starting tomorrow with the beginning of ‘A Shaded View on Fashion Film’ , the world’s only fashion and film festival. Diane Pernet will introduce us to the fashion film through the medium of the moving image. As I have already told you in a previous post, the event will be held from the 24th to the 27th January at Caixa Forum Barcelona and there will be three competitions. This is the trailer video which I personall love:

Each year, ASVOFF debuts in Paris, and tours the globe with selected screening at museums and events in different cities, like NY, London, Tokyo, Mexico City, Perth, Moscow and Cannes Film Festival. The first Barcelona edition program includes curated themed screenings and conferences and debates with industry professionals. For anyone interested in visiting or founding out more here is the link:

On the 24th January, it will be the first day of seeing designs on the catwalk with the opening of ModaFad, which will take place at the Moritz Brewery. The theme of this year’s edition of ModaFad, the 32nd, is the apocalypse, and it will include a show featuring dancers and martial art experts. The website of ModaFad is: http://www.modafad.org/ so you can find more info.

Then there is the 080 Barcelona Fashion catwalk. In its ninth edition 080 Barcelona Fashion will be held from the 25th until the 28th of January in Plaza del Rey. Mango, TCN and Desigual are among the 25 designers that will showcase their work. TCN will raise the curtain of the event and Pierre Cardin, as a special guest, will close it.

The winter edition of The Brandery, the urban fashion show, starts on the 27th and will be held until the 29th January. The Brandery allows visitors to see the exhibitors’ designs in movement. Superdry, Custo and Reply are only three of the 40 brands of the fair. There are also music concerts so the general public's interest is stirred up. Dorian and The Zobie Kids are some the groups that will perform at the trade fair and tickets to their performances include entry to the event the same afternoon.

The same dates as The Brandery and as part of it, a new event called BeCo, becool beconscious, is added to the events of the year. The first ethical fashion platform in Spain which aims to set up and promote sustainable projects in the fashion industry. There will be BeCo talks where experts will share their view and perspective of a more sustainable fashion world.

Last but not least, Little Barcelona a new event but with an international profile, will be held from the 5th to the 6th February. Children are the stars of the event and 50 brands from the world of fashion, decoration and furniture are parading there.

Besides all the above, on Avinguda Maria Cristina is displayed work of Manuel Outumuro, an industry expert, for Marie Claire. A total of 16 photographs of Sheila Márquez together with personalities related to the catalan society. Also from today, the 23rd, and until the 29th January nine establishments across Born are exhibiting ‘New Talents’, a selection of award-nominated looks from the New Talents Contest at July’s edition of The Brandery. And again this year, there is Second Chance, an initiative combining fashion, charity and recycling, where design students will ‘customise’ old jeans and donate them to the Arrels Foundation. So please if you have even a pair of jeans you don’t wear anymore, pass from the 23rd to the 26th January from Bulevard Rosa, Illa Diagonal or Pedralbes Centre and contribute!

Let’s go!!!!
